Blogging Tips Series : General blogging Vs Niche Blogging

Hello and welcome to yet another interesting article on this series. This series as mentioned previously is designed to help new or aspiring bloggers begin their journey into the world of blogging. The first set of articles will basically focus on beginners, teaching them how to decide whether to open a blog or website, what to blog about, how to set up a blog and design it beautifully, adding gadgets and other tools, how to monetize your blog using Google's adsense, affiliate marketing and adverts, how to market on the internet and get a large audience, etc.

In case you missed the previous article about how to decide between a blog and website, click HERE to read.

Now to this article. Assuming you have decided to start up a blog, just what should you blog about? Many people have the notion that blogging about everything is the best. Well, it may work for you, but you may just end up being lost in the sea of websites in the world.
Sincerely, I started off with niche blogging, blogging about Tech, my first love.

But after a very short period, I concluded it was not productive enough so I jumped ships and went on board general blogging. This proved encouraging, as it brought traffic(visitors) daily. But on the long run,  this wont be productive as the visitors wont be loyal readers, neither will it be targeted readers, and advertising and affiliate marketing which will monetize your websites will be harder. More so, it is harder for a blogger to do general blogging, unless there is a team.

I would try to compare both in simple terms and allow you make a pick.

General Blogging: Simply put, this is the act of posting anything and everything you like on your blog. Most times, a combination of gossips, entertainment, sports, fashion, etc forms a general blog. This means that visitors coming to your site are expecting to read 'random' posts. While this may attract people, it wont keep them coming. Your content is not unique and is easily available everywhere on the internet.  Your audience is not targeted. As a blogger, it is even hard to keep up with this type of blogging as so many stories fly past every minute of the day and before you may get hold of it, it becomes old news. Even if you do a copy and paste, it is against search engine policies and your blog may be banned. In terms of monetizing, it is same. Your adverts may not yield profits as they are not directed to a set of readers. Imagine you are running a general blog and have 1000 visitors a day. You have an advert about laptops on your website. Out of the 1000 visitors, most likely only 10 likes laptop stuffs. How will your adverts yield profit? Simple, it wont. Because the wrong people are viewing it. So your 1000 visitors doesnt do you good.

Niche Blogging: Simply put, this is the act of choosing one topic and blogging about it.Many successful bloggers are niche bloggers. It is easy  to run a niche blog because unlike genreal blogging, you are focused on a particular field. Niche blogging may not bring you lots of visitors initially when you first start, but on the long run, with patience and hard work you will get them. In niche blogging, you get to develop regular followers who keeps coming back. Your audience is targeted and when your visitors are much, you will make cool cash. Lets imagine again. Imagine you are running a tech blog, and you have 1000 targeted visitors daily. You have an advert about laptops on your website. Since your audience are targeted(all tech lovers), it is most likely that at least 500 will notice your laptop advert take action. Thats a step to making money from adverts. If your content is original and unique, search engines will notice you and rank you well, thus giving you free visitors. Your contents are not random, but rather focused on the area you are blogging about.

This is a VERY basic comparison of General blogging and Niche Blogging for beginners. There are far more details involved as to why Niche blogging is better for a single blogger.

Are you ready to start your very first blog?Well, you will have to decide what to blog about first. So think what you would like to blog about...think...think...still thinking?Take your time buddy. My next article will help you decide WHAT topic exactly to blog about, how to open a free blog and how to publish your first content. Dont miss it buddy, dont...Untill then, stay safe. Much Love.
