Articles: What is Black Friday?Get the best deals here!!!

Black Friday!!!!Yes, we love the sound of that. It sends shivers to our spines and a high level of excitement. It's just four days to the Black Friday. Most of us have our eyes already on new gadgets at a very very cheap price. Of course, that's the beauty of black Friday. Cheaper deals, high excitement, much money saved and yet much money wasted on a collective scale. Just what exactly is Black Friday and how did it begin?

Black Friday is the day following Thanksgiving Day in the United States. It usually falls after the 4th Thursday of November. It gained ground since  the early 2000s and has been regarded as the beginning of the Christmas shopping season in the US.

Big sellers worldwide give a higher discount on sales that day, beginning at 6am, although more recently some begin on the Thursday before it.  Black Friday is not an official holiday, but California and some other states observe "The Day After Thanksgiving" as a holiday for state government employees. Many non-retail employees and schools have both Thanksgiving and the following Friday off, which, along with the following regular weekend, makes it a four-day weekend, thereby increasing the number of potential shoppers. It has routinely been the busiest shopping day of the year since 2005, although news reports, which at that time were inaccurate, have described it as the busiest shopping day of the year for a much longer period of time.

In 2014, $50.9 billion was spent during the 4-day Black Friday weekend, down 11% from the previous year. While approximately 133 million U.S. consumers shopped during the same period, down 5.2% from last year's 141 million. Also, the average online order on Black Friday was $129.37.

The name Black Friday orginated in Philadelphia, where it originally was used to describe the heavy and disruptive pedestrian and vehicle traffic that would occur on the day after Thanksgiving. Use of the term started before 1961 and began to see broader use outside Philadelphia around 1975. Later an alternative explanation was made: that retailers traditionally operated at a financial loss ("in the red") from January through November, and "Black Friday" indicates the point at which retailers begin to turn a profit, or "in the black". Contrary to what many believed, Black Friday did not originate from the sales of slaves on the day after Thanksgiving.

There have been reports of violence occurring between shoppers on Black Friday as most people rush to retail shops in a bid to secure a good spot on long queues and get desirable products before it runs out of stock. Technology has helped a little on this as most people now place their orders online, the downside being congested servers and products running out of stock.
