100 times faster Li-fi technology set to replace Wi-fi

Wi-Fi is something we of the internet age has become so familiar with. In Nigeria, it is said that there is nothing sweeter than free WiFi connection when it comes to surfing. WiFi has tremendous speed than the normal internet service provider data plans. Do you love WiFi? Something bigger and a 100times faster than it is coming.

What is LiFi and how is it different from WiFi? Simply put,WiFi uses radio waves to transmit data. LiFi uses smart LED bulbs with visible light.

The system uses an internet connection and server to stream content through a light equipped with signal processing technology. The light then streams the data at high speeds, up to 1 gigabit per second, to a light sensor, which eventually converts that data back into a data stream to deliver content.

The downside of this is that if any object at all blocks the light sensor, connectivity to the internet is immediately lost. It was also argued that it won't work in the sunlight because the sun rays will interfere with the signals. LiFi also can't work through walls like WiFi. But it was proven that when it works, mostly in a room setting, it is fast to a breathtaking speed of 224gigabits per second. Imagine using that kind of speed to browse or download! Awesome. It is expected that LiFi will be available for us to use in 3-4years.
LiFi is produced by a group called Velmenni.
